Tell us about your background and your current role…

My role involves inspiring and enabling Christian Aid supporters to use their voices to speak out about climate change and to urge the government and local politicians to take action. I visit schools, churches and other groups to speak about the experience of our partners around the world and the impact of climate change on poor communities. I help to shape the direction and strategy of our campaigning on climate change in the UK and Ireland.

With regard to climate change what are the current issues facing your sector/area of expertise?

With the successors to the Millennium Development Goals being agreed in 2015 there is a need for a standalone goal on climate change.

There is also a need to urgently move away from fossil fuels and to speed this process many organisations are beginning to campaign on the finance that underpins the fossil fuel industry. Churches and other institutions are considering divestment from fossil fuels and this is something that we have an interest in too.

We are also involved in seeking climate finance for developing countries so that they will be able to adapt to the effects of climate change and also to leap–frog fossil fuel dependent forms of development, so that they can access clean energy for their citizens.
