Tell us about your background and your current role…

(Project Leader – Environment and Renewable Energy Centre) leading the research which underpins land–based renewable energy systems at the Agri–Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI). Prior to joining AFBI, I gained seven years experience in the renewables industry, specialising in biomass production for energy associated with environmentally sustainable recycling of organic waste products. I currently hold a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Food & Agricultural Biotechnology.

With regard to climate change what are the current issues facing your sector/area of expertise?

Adapting to land use demands for energy cropping. Increasing energy costs and pollution awareness in the farm and agri–food processing sectors. How do we increase production and efficiency of production while also reducing pollution and energy costs while maintaining an environmentally sustainable and vibrant agricultural and agri–food sector?

With regard to climate change, what do you expect the future issues and solutions to be in your sector/area of expertise?

My area aims to inform DAERA policy on these issues and help them make more informed decisions.
