Tell us about your background and your current role…

I am a TV producer specialising in environment related programme making. I have an interest in climate change effects upon the High Arctic along with a knowledge of issues affecting the Inuit and give talks to general audiences on these subjects both in NI and the UK generally. I am also a Visiting Professor at Ulster University, a Master of the Open University and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

With regard to climate change what are the current issues facing your sector/area of expertise?

Glacial meltdown, loss of sea ice, release of methane, changes to ocean current circulation, pollution of air and sea with implications for wildlife.

With regard to climate change, what do you expect the future issues and solutions to be in your sector/area of expertise?

As the melt accelerates, the effects will spread across a number of key sectors – sea–levels will rise, more methane in the atmosphere is bound to contribute to global warming, the loss of sea–ice will increase the Albedo effect, the Great Ocean Conveyor will be affected which in turn will influence our climate.
