Sustainable Agriculture Research & Innovation Club (SARIC) Sandpit 2017

Tue 24th October 2017 - Thu 26th October 2017, TBC

NERC and the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) invite applications to participate in an interactive strategic workshop (sandpit).

The purpose of the sandpit is to develop research and research translation projects to support the aim of the Sustainable Agriculture Research & Innovation Club (SARIC). SARIC’s aims are to generate innovative solutions to the sustainable intensification of agriculture in the UK within the challenge themes of: resilient and robust crop and livestock production systems and predictive capabilities for sustainable agriculture.

The sandpit will commence with an evening networking reception on 24 October 2017 and will continue with two full days on 25 and 26 October 2017 to generate proposals. Applicants must apply to participate via the NERC website and will receive a formal invitation confirming attendance.

Specific industry challenges will be posed by the Club during the sandpit to stimulate the development of proposals. Participants will be expected to present a project idea as part of a multidisciplinary team to an expert panel on the final day of the sandpit.

BBSRC and NERC have allocated approximately £1 million for research grants and approximately £0·5 million for research translation grants (the precise ratio of funding between the two types of grants will reflect the applications received). Successful sandpit projects will be invited to be submitted as proposals for either a research or research translation grant through Je–S in November 2017.

All proposals submitted after the sandpit must fall within the remit of SARIC and its two key challenges.
